Dry Needling

What Is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is the use of solid filiform needles for the therapy of muscle pain, sometimes also known as intramuscular stimulation. Acupuncture and dry-needling techniques are similar. Although the needles used have been called 'acupuncture needles' and manufactured for use by acupuncturists they are now more properly referred to as solid filiform needles and are used in both procedures.
Dry needling for the treatment of myofascial trigger points is based on theories similar, but not exclusive, to traditional acupuncture; however, dry needling targets the trigger points, which are the direct and palpable source of patient pain.
At Rehab Pro Sports Injury Clinic, dry needling is used for the treatment of muscle pain. If practiced well, there will be a remarkable absence of the 'post-treatment tissue soreness' that is often experienced by patients following other manual therapy interventions.

I'd been suffering from what turned out to be tennis elbow for approximately 18 months . . . Incredibly my arm felt much better after the very first session and has continued to improve massively ever since.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the needling of points on meridians in the body to boost, harmonise and remove blockages in the flow of energy throughout the body. It has a very positive model of good health and function and looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance. The overall aim of acupuncture treatment is to restore the body's equilibrium.

At Rehab Pro Sports Injury Clinic, we sometimes use this technique. You will always be consulted prior to its use and retain the right to refuse treatment. For more information regarding acupuncture, please contact our specialists at Rehab Pro Sports Injuries and Wellness Clinic.
